MECyS Partners Meeting in Paris: A Glimpse into the Future of Cybersecurity

MECyS Partners Meeting in Paris: A Glimpse into the Future of Cybersecurity

On June 12, 2023, the consortium of MECyS convened for a pivotal partners meeting in the heart of Paris. In this gathering, we renewed our commitment to bridging the gap in cybersecurity awareness among non-IT staff in small businesses. We are thrilled to share this significant event’s highlights and key takeaways.

Identified Learning Hurdles in Cybersecurity

Our partner from PHFR presented the findings from the Learning Hurdles report. Through a comprehensive questionnaire and four insightful interviews, we identified several challenges:

  • A lack of understanding of Data Protection, even though participants grasp the concept of cybersecurity.
  • Concerns about the time-consuming nature of authentication processes.
  • A general resignation towards data protection, with many feeling it’s too late to take protective measures.

Further Actions: We aim to gather more data by making the questionnaire publicly accessible. We’re also considering innovative methods like QR codes in partner buildings to facilitate responses.

How Different Countries Tackle Cybersecurity Training

During the MECyS partners’ meeting in Paris, FHNW shed light on the training systems across various countries:

  • Cyprus: Emphasis on general system education with VET programs in collaboration with cybersecurity companies and universities.
  • France: A three-tiered approach focusing on federation on Cybersecurity and National programs.
  • Germany: A dual system with a focus on certifications in both formal and non-formal settings.
  • Greece: A blend of private and systematic certifications at workplaces.
  • Spain: Multiple levels of VET with active employer involvement.
  • Switzerland: An ecosystem based on career development and expert knowledge seminars.

Our Strategy for Effective Cybersecurity Learning

Anemo presented the methodology behind collecting learning tools. Each organization will fill out a report on their country’s learning tools, ensuring a comprehensive and diverse collection.

The Turtle, the Mouse, and the Rabbit: Personalizing Cybersecurity Training for All

CESUR introduced the concept of categorizing learners into three profiles based on their cybersecurity knowledge: turtle (beginner), mouse (intermediate), and rabbit (advanced). This segmentation will help tailor the training materials to the specific needs of each group.

Our Exploitation & Dissemination Strategy

Our partner from A.B. iED highlighted our project’s social media strategy. We have a calendar in place until April 2025, and partners are encouraged to contribute ideas. We’re also working on translating content for our website to cater to a global audience.

Evaluating Our Progress and Looking Ahead

Finally, our partner from STHEV shared the evaluation results from the previous kick-off meeting. We also discussed the upcoming workshop in 2024 in Spain and the SIATE-Conference in Germany scheduled for September 28, 2023.

MECyS Kick-Off Meeting: A New Beginning in Freiburg

MECyS Kick-Off Meeting: A New Beginning in Freiburg

MECyS project, a beacon of innovation and collaboration, recently held its kick-off meeting in the picturesque city of Freiburg. From Tuesday, 7th to Wednesday, 8th March 2023, the meeting was a melting pot of ideas, strategies, and future plans. Here’s a detailed account of what transpired during the Freiburg kick-off meeting.

1. Laid the Groundwork for Seamless Collaboration

Together with our partners, we established a robust communication framework. Online meetings for all partners are slated for every first Friday of the month at 11:00 CET, with a notable exception in April due to Easter. At the same time, we concluded that MS Teams is the preferred platform for data storage and video conferencing, ensuring seamless collaboration.

2. Unveiled Our Comprehensive Training Strategy

Training is at the heart of the MECyS project. Our partners introduced a draft template for analyzing the training systems, emphasizing the need for detailed offerings. The report on learning tools, spearheaded by our partner Anemo, highlighted the importance of a coherent set of learning tools. Moreover, insights into learning hurdles were shared, providing a comprehensive understanding of the challenges faced.

3. Tailored Learning for a Better Perfect User Experience

Next, it was crucial to identify our target group. MECyS primarily addresses learners in SME contexts with limited cybersecurity and data protection knowledge. Based on that, we discussed the issue of different-sized companies as their size limit varies from 10-50 employees. Additionally, the heterogeneity of SMEs also plays a big role in being influenced by their field of work, the age of employees, their educational backgrounds etc. For this reason, the user journey and personas were meticulously crafted, ensuring a tailored learning experience for every user.

The Upcoming Rendezvous in Paris on June

We discussed our upcoming meeting in Paris on the 12th and 13th of June, 2023. This meeting will be divided in two. The first day will be dedicated the project meeting, and the second day will be a workshop with at least 5 participants per partner. This workshop promises to be a hub of innovation, with tool presentations, feedback sessions, and brainstorming activities.

Introduction to the Geiger Toolbox

Our partners presented to the consortium the Geiger Toolbox, a testament to the project’s commitment to providing top-notch tools and resources.

4. Our Vision for Effective Dissemination

During the kick-off meeting, the dissemination plan was unveiled, emphasizing the need for a dedicated team member from each partner for dissemination. The brainstorming session on the logo was particularly engaging, with several creative ideas floated.

5. Our Approach to Continuous Improvement

The evaluation segment was insightful. The partner tasked with the evaluation was set to dispatch a questionnaire post the kick-off. This feedback will be crucial as it will shape the project’s future trajectory.
